SHANUSTI LAIRD

We are so proud of Tacker as we call him, he is our pride and joy, he stands at 7.2hh a lovely 5-year-old black stallion that is a Multi Supreme
Champion and Multi champion Shetland pony.

Just in the 2003 /2004 show season his wins include Champion 8.2hh and under Shetland Stallion at Bendigo and Alexandra Agricultural shows, also at the Sep, and Dec, Bendigo all breed show he won over all Champion Shetland Stallion and Supreme over all Shetland, and over all Champion Shetland Stallion at the Feb, Bendigo All Breeds show and Tatura Agriculture show. He also won best-presented Shetland pony at all the above shows. He was a Multi Champion and Supreme Champion Shetland in the privies show seasons as well and still going strong.

Tacker is not only a multi champion and multi supreme champion himself, he is a proven sire producing two multi champion progeny in his first foal drop. They are Possum Hollow Lairds Glory who also is a Supreme Champion and Multi Champion Colt and Possum Hollow Ebony who is a Multi Champion Filly, they have both achieved this as yearlings in the 2003/2004-show season. We are looking forward to his 5 foals arriving soon this season. A quality Shetland is a quality Shetland irrespective of size or color and while Tacker maybe small we could not of asked more from him then he has already achieved he is every thing we were looking for in a Shetland Stallion and more.

Domino Downs Caremelbear N Cream

We purchased this colt from Jonathon and Leanne Baker of the Domino Downs Shetland and Miniature Pony Stud, when he was 2 ˝ months old, during the 2006 Victorian Stud Show. “Little Bear” as he is known, had just won the Best Shetland Foal class, against ponies to mature to 10.2hh.

I first laid eyes on this boy when he was just 2 weeks old. I knew from the moment that I saw him that I had to have him. Trying to convince hubby that we needed another colt was another matter, until he saw him at the Stud Show, and he was smitten too!

Waiting for him to be weaned and to come home seemed to take forever. I am sure Leanne got annoyed at the constant requests for new photos and updates of his progress. Preparation then began for his first show season. How excited I was to be preparing him for the start of show season.

Show season began with the Maryborough Ag Show in October, 2006. “Bear” received 1st in the Miniature Pony Yearling Colt class, and then went on to take out Champion Miniature Pony Male. Next followed the Bendigo Ag Show – where again he received 1st Miniature Pony Yearling Colt.

Then came Castlemaine, Ballarat – where we again took out 1st Miniature Pony Yearling Colt & Champion Miniature Pony Male. The Ballarat & District Welsh & Cob Society ran an all breeds young stock show, where again Bear did well, placing 2nd in a very strong Shetland Yearling Colt class.

Then came the 2007 Victorian Stud Show. Bear placed 2nd in the yearling colt not to exceed 8.2h at maturity, again against a very strong field of contenders. Next came Barastoc and the Miniature Pony of the Year. What a surprise when we were placed 2nd in the yearling colt class, against a very strong field of very well presented ponies.

Barastoc was to be the last of our shows. Alas, this was not the case. We headed off to the Foster Ag Show, this time with another of our Shetlands (Shady Glen Hamond 10h) attending as well. Bear placed 1st in the Shetland Yearling colt, filly or gelding class, Hamond placed 1st in the Stallion class. How interesting to have both of our ponies in the running for Champion or Reserve Champion Shetland Pony. What a shock when Bear (as a yearling) beat Hamond for the Reserve Champion Shetland Pony. We then went on to compete in the Miniature Pony Classes. Again Bear placed 1st in the yearling colt class, was awarded Champion Miniature Pony Male and the shock of all shocks, Supreme Miniature Pony exhibit. What an end to our show season! How thrilled I was for our beautiful little man!

This little man has surpassed all our expectations in the show ring. Bear did not compete in any show with a placing lower than 2nd . Even at the 2 most major shows of our show season. He has never put a foot wrong, is magnificently behaved and has proven himself both in the Shetland rings and Miniature Pony rings. He truly is a versatile pony, and we eagerly await the start of the 2007/2008 show season, where again he will go out as a 2 year old and I am sure do us proud.

PENTLAND TRESCO

It was a cold rainy day in May that my aunty and I went to Vic for our first Pentland auction, I was after a little black filly that I had fallen in love with , after seeing her in the catalogue, but as we sat there in the freezing rain, she came though and she was just out of my price range, so I was just shattered to say the least, I thought oh well I will be going home with nothing, (we had come from Sydney) as we were getting ready to go and have another look at the filly my aunty had bought the last colt was bought in and I said to my aunty have a bid, she said "what do you want with a colt" but I just had to have him , his name was Pentland Tresco , just a plain black colt but he had something I just loved. Once I got him home he was just a little darling, never nasty, with anyone or thing, he has always been a true gentleman.

We could not wait to start his show career, and on his first outing he took out Champ Mini and Champ Shetland, I was so happy and he has never looked back, one of our greatest days was Sydney Royal in 2002 when he took out Reserve Champ Shetland under 8.2, and I have to say that I cried like a fool as the bagpipes lead us from the ring I could not have been prouder of my little fella.

We are still going strong and now his babies are having great success in the ring as well , his son R&L Lodge Limited Edition has taken out Reserve Champ for the past two years at Sydney Royal and his other babies are doing very well also, with another one coming out this show season. He passes on his looks and temperament to all his foals so far , and we look forward to this years babies with great excitement, he is always the one we put the new pones with as I know I can trust him not to hurt them in any way, he will share his feed with anyone. I have to make sure the gelding does not get to fat as he takes Tresco's feed, as do the others, including the foals. He runs with them all year round, his mares, the gelding and the foals all eat sleep and play together and we have never had a single problem.

I just cant say what this pony means to me, he is the kind of pony you dream of owning, and I am always so proud when the judge says what lovely manners he has and if he never won another thing in his life he would still be my Champ forever.
